Match NotesHONOLULU — For the second time in as many home series, the No. 7 University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team will host the nation's top-ranked team. This week Long Beach State arrives for a two-match Mountain Pacific Sports Federation series, Wednesday, Feb. 24 and Friday, Feb. 26 at the Stan Sheriff Center. First serve is 7:00 p.m., for both matches.
UH (10-5, 5-5 MPSF) went 1-3 on its recent road trip to Stanford and USC with its lone victory in five sets against the Trojans in the first of two matches. The Warriors have dropped four of their last five matches after starting the season 9-1 and are tied for sixth in the MPSF standings. This week's series begins a two-week homestand which also includes a pair of matches against No. 2 BYU, March 2 and 4.
The Beach (13-2, 10-2) have won their last seven matches and retained the No. 1 ranking for the third straight week. LBSU's two losses in conference play were against BYU in four sets and UCLA in five, the latter of the two the 49ers led two sets to none.
The teams last met in last year's MPSF Tournament quarterfinals in Honolulu, which the Warriors prevailed in straight sets. UH has won the last four matches in the series.
