LOS ANGELES – A strong second half by the Hawai'i women's basketball team wasn't enough to overcome No. 9 UCLA's dominant first half as the Rainbow Wahine fell 72-49 at Pauley Pavilion on Sunday afternoon.
The Bruins raced out to a 21-3 lead after the first quarter and built the advantage to 45-17 at halftime by outrebounding Hawai'i 27-15 and forcing the 'Bows into 13 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
The Rainbow Wahine (2-6) regrouped in the second half, shooting 37 percent from the field, outrebounding UCLA (6-1) 20-19 and outscoring the Bruins 32-27 after the break.

Sarah Toeaina led Hawai'i with 16 points on 7-of-15 shooting, and added five rebounds. Senior
Briana Harris scored all 13 of her points in the second half, going 3-of-4 from 3-point range in the final two quarters and added seven rebounds in the game. Sophomore
Olivia Crawford finished with 10 points, five rebounds and two assists for the 'Bows.
Hawai'i shot 33 percent (18-of-54) from the field in the game, including 29 percent (6-of-21) from 3. Meanwhile, UCLA hit 40 percent (27-of-68) of its shots and 8-of-28 3-pointers. The Bruins forced Hawai'i into 20 turnovers while giving up only 12, resulting in a 34-3 lead in points off turnovers. UCLA also won the rebounding battle 46-35.
Hawai'i will return home to host Hawai'i Pacific on Dec. 11 at 2:00 p.m. (HT).
