UH's duo of
Klara Pribylova and
Alzbeta Houbova combined to blank Stanford's Naomie Rosenberg and Paulette Wolak for the Rainbow Wahine's only win in doubles. But Hawai'i's
Marina Hruba and
Nikola Dolakova battled to the end of a tie-breaker match against Emma Higuchi and Kimberly Yee, but just fell a little short, 7-6 (4).
In singles however, the 'Bows rebounded to win four out of the eight matches. In the biggest win of
Petra Melounova's young career, she knocked off No. 22 Taylor Davidson in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. Hruba, UH's only ranked player in the ITA preseason rankings at 100, defeated Higuchi in a tie-breaker third set after splitting the first two tightly contested sets, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 10-7. Pribylova held off Rosenberg by a break in both sets, 7-5, 6-4 and Houbova cruised to a straight set win over Elizabeth Yao, 6-3, 6-1.
Michelle Pits won the first set against Stanford's Arbuthnott, but fell in three, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 while the Cardinal's Yee held off UH's Dolakova by a break in both sets, 6-4, 6-4.
