Rainbow Wahine Blank UC Davis For Seventh Consecutive Home Win

WAIPAHU, O'ahu – The Hawai'i women's soccer team extended its home-winning streak to seven matches on Sunday with a 2-0 win over UC Davis.

Addie Steiner scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 27th minute after a couple quick passes from Lillie French and Raisa Strom-Okimoto led to a breakaway opportunity. Steiner beat UC Davis goalkeeper Alexis Smith to the far post to put the Rainbow Wahine ahead 1-0.

UC Davis had a golden opportunity to tie the match in the 70th minute when UH goalkeeper Monk Berger was whistled for taking down an Aggie player in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Berger made up for her mistake, however, coming up with a kick save on the attempt to keep the Aggies scoreless. The shutout is Berger's sixth this season and second in a row. She had three saves in the match.

The Rainbow Wahine (9-3-1, 2-2 Big West) essentially put the game out of reach when Kellsie Gleason scored her second goal of the season off a loose ball just outside the six-yard box in the 83rd minute. Strom-Okimoto earned her eighth assist of the season on the goal.

The Aggies (5-6-3, 1-1-1 Big West) out-shot Hawai'i 13-12 but the 'Bows had a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks favored UC Davis 8-3.

Hawai'i continues its four-game home-stand next week when Long Beach State visits Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium on Oct. 14.
