SAN DIEGO, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team competed on the second day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Southwestern Regional Championships at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. Although Hawai'i's three rookies fell in the singles bracket Round of 32, the Rainbow Wahine dominated in doubles sweeping all four of their matches to advance to the Round of 16 on Saturday.
 
In the singles draw, all three Rainbow Wahine fell to seeded players. Petra Melounova dropped her match to top-seed Arizona's Lauren Marker in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. No. 7-seed Jessica Failla of USC defeated UH's Nikola Dolakova, 6-0, 6-1 while 11^th-seeded Alaina Miller of UCLA just edged out UH's Michelle Pits, 7-5, 6-4.
 
Hawai'i's doubles teams won all four of their matches to advance to all the Round of 16. Two of the matches came down to the wire with both ending in a thrilling tie-breaker. Alzbeta Houbova and Klára Pribylová held off San Diego's Jessica Regehr and Daniela Morales, 8-7 (3) while Cindy Nguyen and Melounova knocked off seventh-seeded Ashley Lahey and Dzina Milovanovic of Pepperdine, 8-7 (3). Roxanne Resma and Dolakova advanced by defeating Long Beach State's Maren Helgo and Natalia Munoz, 8-5 and Marina Hruba and Michele Pits cruised to a 8-3 win over Cal State Fullerton's Masako Makiba and Luxizi Meng.
