HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team (9-7, 2-1 Big West) defeated CSUN (2-14, 0-2 BWC) in its' home conference-opener, 77-50 Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. UH extends to a 16-game conference home win streak dating back to last season, and snapped a three-game losing streak at home. Â

The Rainbow Wahine took control early on carried their momentum all the way through the end, dominating the Matadors across the stat line and scoring a season-high 77-points. UH finished the night shooting at 56% from the field (30-54), 60% from three-point range (6-10), and out-rebounded CSUN, 41-22.

All 13 players saw action on the floor, with 11 putting points on the board for UH. Senior
Ashleigh Karaitiana led the Rainbow Wahine with a team-high 17 points, while sophomore
Megan Huff and senior
Kalei Adolpho added 12 apiece.
Destiny King additionally reached for a game-high eight rebounds, four points, and four assists.

The Rainbow Wahine led by as many as eight points in the first quarter, going two-for-two from three-point range courtesy of
Ashleigh Karaitiana and
Marissa Wimbley and finished the period with a 19-12 advantage over the Matadors.

Following another trey by Karaitiana midway through the second quarter, UH built up a solid 14-5 run for an 18-point advantage over CSUN, but suffered a two-minute scoring drought to follow, as the Matadors rounded off the first half with five unanswered points. At the halftime buzzer, the 'Bows held on to a 37-24 lead.

The Rainbow Wahine opened the third with an explosive 13-2 run and another pair of back-to-back treys by Harris and Karaitiana, took their largest lead of the night with a 27-point margin, 56-29 over CSUN and never looked back, finishing the quarter without a single turnover.

UH next hosts UC Riverside, Jan. 16 at the Stan Sheriff Center at 7:00 p.m. HT. The game will be preceded by an Alumnae exhibition, open to fans at 5:00 p.m. HT.
