Sha'tres Ah Nee and Felicanna Vazquez completed their first Big West Conference Championship in 12
th and 16
th place, respectively, Saturday at UC Riverside Track Facility.
Ah Nee completed the seven disciplines with a personal best 3,990 points while Vazquez totaled 3,641 points.
CSUN's Olympia Jewett (4,981) held off teammate Shawnta Barnes (4,980) by one point to claim the gold medal. CSUN's Marissa Rossi made it a clean sweep by winning bronze with 4,806 points. UH heptathletes had won the past two Big West heptathlon titles.
Ah Nee, a freshman from 'Ewa Beach, O'ahu, posted three more heptathlon personal bests with marks of 16-4¼ (4.98m) in the long jump, 89-7 (27.31m) in the javelin, and 2:50.42 in the 800-meter run.
Vazquez, a sophomore from Wai'anae, O'ahu, started the day with a long jump of 17-3¼ (5.26m), followed by a javelin throw of 121-5 (37.02m) and finished the competition with an 800-meter run of 3:03.10.
The Big West Championships continues Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16.
