Softball Battles League-Leader CSUN In Three-Game BWC Series

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.-The University of Hawai'i softball team (27-21, 8-7 Big West) hits the road for their final regular season roadtrip of the season at league-leader CSUN (39-11, 14-1 Big West). The Rainbow Wahine are currently tied for third place with Cal State Fullerton, one game behind Long Beach State .

The 'Bows are looking to bounce back after dropping their three game home series against UC Santa Barbara, 2-1. Overall, sophomore first baseman Heather Morales leads UH with a .344 (45-for-131) batting average and is second on the team with 28 RBI. Fellow sophomore, shortstop Sarina Jaramillo is second on the team with a .315 average (40-for-127) with 17 runs scored while senior catcher/outfielder Kayla Wartner is hitting .306 (41-for-134) with 31 runs scored, nine doubles and is tied with Leisha Li'ili'i with a team-high nine home runs. Junior rightfielder Keiki Carlos leads Hawai'i with 32 runs scored, 47 hits, and 11 doubles. She is hitting .303 overall. Li'ili'i leads Hawai'i in conference action with a .333 average 916-for-48) with a double, three home runs and eight RBI.

In the pitching circle, redshirt freshman Brittany Hitchcock is 14-7 overall and 5-2 in conference with a 2.58 ERA overall in 146-1/3 innings pitched. She has 11 complete games in 25 starts with 28 appearances. With 34 walks to 75 strikeouts. Sophomore Kanani Aina Cabrales is 12-14 overall and 3-5 in the Big West. Aina Cabrales has thrown 147-2/3 innings with four shut outs in 22 starts with 13 complete games. She has fanned 88 opposing batters while walking 44.

CSUN Matadors (39-11, 14-1 Big West)
The Matadors have been on a roll, winning their first 13-straight conference games before falling to Long Beach State in the second game of the three-game series. Freshman second baseman Savannah Horvath was named the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the week after hitting .750 with three extra-base hits and three RBI's as they claimed their first series victory over the 49ers since the 2002 season.

CSUN has a potent offense with six Matadors hitting over .300. CSUN is led by Taylor Glover who is hitting a shade under .400 at .395 (64-for-162) with a team-high 45 runs scored and a team-high 27 stolen bases. Katie Hooper is hitting .383 (59-for-154) with a team high 14 home runs and a jaw-dropping 53 RBI while Horvath overall is hitting .358 (53-for-148) with a team-high 14 doubles.

In the pitching circle, the Matadors primarily use the combination of Zoe Conley and Brianna Elder. Conley is 18-4 overall and a perfect 7-0 in the Big West. She has a 1.45 ERA in 130.1 innings pitched with seven shut outs in 33 appearances. Conley has walked just 36 batters with 118 strikeouts. Elder is 17-4 overall and 7-1 in conference with an overall ERA of 2.13. she has thrown 161 innings with 172 strikeouts to just 53 walks.
