2015 Women's Tennis Big West Championship BracketINDIAN WELLS, Calif.—The No. 70 University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (10-9, 5-3 Big West) will begin their quest to win the Big West Championship in the quarterfinal round against CSUN (14-5, 5-3 Big West) on Friday, April 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Hawai'i and CSUN both have 5-3 conference marks, but the 'Bows have the tie breaker with a 4-1 upset win over Matadors who were ranked No. 74 at the time in Northridge, Calif. this past Sunday.
Sophomore
Cindy Nguyen is currently ranked No. 94 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings. Last week, Nguyen sealed the win for UH with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win over CSUN's Mickey Hsu on the No. 1 court. For Nguyen, it marked her sixth straight win and her 12
th win in her last 13 decisions. She concluded the regular season undefeated in conference with a 7-0 in Big West record. Overall, Nguyen is 14-6 with a 14-3 mark in dual matches.
Freshman
Viktoria Malova has come through for the 'Bows, with an 11-6 dual match record and a 5-3 mark in conference. Malova has been a consistent performer with a 10-6 on the No. 2 singles court. Senior
Rebecca Faltusz has finished her collegiate career with a 6-1 record in conference and an 11-10 overall record. She has seen the most time on the No. 6 court where she has played 11 matches this season. Junior
Paulina Petriskova has also been key for the Rainbow Wahine this season. Currently, Petrikova is 7-6 overall with a 4-2 conference record with wins in her last two matches at No. 4.
Hawai'i struggled early to find a successful line-up combination in doubles trying 19 different pairings this season. But recently, the 'Bows have seemed to crack the code as they've found some success with the partnership of Martina Kostalova and Petriskova on the No. 1 court. They have won three of their last four matches, including an 8-6 win over CSUN's Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei last week. Hawai'i's No. 2 duo of Faltusz and Nguyen has also produced dividends with them winning three of their last four matches as well. The No. 3 position has featured Malova with either junior
Sarah Gealer or fellow freshman Klara Pribylova.
CSUN (14-5, 5-3 Big West)In singles, the Matadors have five players who have already recorded double digits in the win column. Criss Rodrigues leads CSUN with a 15-3 overall record and a perfect 11-0 mark on the No. 4 court. Kristen Poei is 13-3 and is 6-2 playing at No. 5 and 5-1 at No. 6. Jessica Warren is a solid 12-2 with a 6-1 record at both No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Mickey Hsu is 11-8 overall with a 7-4 record at No. 2 while Kiryang Kim is 10-7 overall with a 7-3 record on the No. 3 court.
In doubles, the duo of Poei and Hsu has been dominant with a 14-4 record this season. They are 6-3 when playing at No. 1 and 8-1 at No. 2. The combo of Rodriguez and Warren is 11-4 all at No. 3.
