SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i softball team (24-18, 5-4 Big West) head to San Luis, Obispo, Calif. to take on Cal Poly (21-22, 4-5 Big West) in a pivotal three-game conference series on April 17-18. The Rainbow Wahine are currently in a three-way tie for second with Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State at 5-4.
Overall, sophomore
Heather Morales continues to lead Hawai'i with a .330 batting average (38-for-115) as well as a team-high 27 RBI and 38 hits. Morales has started all 42 games this season and is also 1-0 in the pitching circle with a 3.12 ERA in eight appearances. Fellow sophomore
Sarina Jaramillo is second on the team with a .316 average (36-for-114) with 16 runs scored, four doubles and 18 RBI while junior rightfielder and leadoff hitter
Keiki Carlos leads UH with29 runs scored and nine doubles. She is one of four players to have started all 42 games and is hitting .311 overall with a team-high 42 hits in 135 at bats. In conference, Carlos is hitting .353 with a team-high 12 hits, two doubles, and six runs scored.
Also in conference, freshman
Rachel Lack has come on strong. She leads UH with a .400 batting average, hitting 10-for-25, four home runs and nine RBI. Lack also leads UH with a .920 slugging percentage. Overall, the rookie utility player from Sydney, Australia is hitting .213 (20-for-94) with 20 runs scored. Senior Leisha Li'il'i has also raised her game in conference, she is second on the team hitting .393 (11-for-28) with two home runs and five RBI.
Pitcher
Brittany Hitchcock is 11-6 overall with a 2.55 ERA in 120.2 innings pitched with 24 appearances. Last week, she fired a three-hit shutout over Long Beach State—just their second shutout of the season. Overall she has four shutouts and has 65 strike outs with 30 walks. Hitchcock is 2-1 in conference with a 2.51 ERA with 22.1 innings pitched. She has four walks to 17 strike outs. Sophomore
Kanani Aina Cabrales is 12-12 overall with a 2.66 ERA in 134.0 innings pitched. She also has four shutouts on the season with 40 walks and 83 strike outs. In conference games, Aina Cabrales has a 1.81 ERA and has a 3-3 record with a shutout in six starts.
Cal Poly Mustangs (21-22, 4-5 Big West)The Mustangs are coming off a 2-1 series win over UC Davis last week. Cal Poly won the deciding game 2-1, posting both runs in the first inning and holding off the Aggies the rest of the way. In conference they are just one game in back of three teams log-jammed in second place at 5-4—including Hawai'i, Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State.
Overall, Courtney Tyler leads the Mustangs with a .361 batting average (43-for-119) with a team-high 21 runs scored. She is one of our CP players to have started all 43 games this year. Stephanie Heyward is second on the team hitting .330 (38-for-115) with 17 runs scored. She leads Cal Poly with 10 doubles and also has 16 RBI. Sierra Highland is hitting .269 (36-for-134) with a team-best 17 RBI and three home runs.
Highland is also Cal Poly's best pitcher and last season's Big West Pitcher of the Year. She's thrown 197.1 innings pitched with a 16-14 record and a 2.16 ERA. She has 197 strike outs and 75 walks with seven shutouts and 22 complete games. In conference, Hyland is 4-4 with a 3.43 ERA in eight appearances (47.0 innings pitched). Lindsey Chalmers is the other primary pitcher for the Mustangs. She is 5-7 overall with a 3.84 ERA with 96.2 innings pitched.
