Box Score (html)HONOLULU-The University of Hawai'i softball team fell to Utah on the fourth night of the Outrigger Resorts Spring Fling Tournament. The Utes defeated UH, 8-1 on Saturday night at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. The loss snapped UH's five game win streak which started during last week's Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament.
Utah scored a run in the first inning and added three more in the second to take an early 4-0 lead.
Hawai'i was able to get one run back in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly hit by 'Ulu Matatiese to drive in
Kayla Wartner from third.
But the Utes then pulled away in the next half inning, recording four more runs with four hits in the inning. Utah brought eight batters to the plate to go up 8-1.
Hawai'i was held to just one hit in the game by
Leisha Li'ili'i in the second inning, but UH had runners on in five out of seven innings.
Kanani 'Aina Cabrales threw the first inning and a third, allowing four runs on four hits with four walks.
Heather Morales threw the last five and a third innings, giving up four runs on eight hits with a career-high six strike outs.
Utah's Katie Donovan earned the win, throwing five innings. She allowed the one run on one hit with five strike outs. Mariah Ramirez closed the game, firing the last two innings. She fanned one batter.
Hawai'i concludes the tournament on Sunday. The 'Bows will battle Utah again at 12:00 pm and then East Carolina at 2:00 pm.
