VIDEO: Seniors' Last Words

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team (21-7, 13-2 Big West) kept its 13-game win-streak rolling, pulling away for a 60-36 win over UC Santa Barbara on Thursday night. The Rainbow Wahine now return home to face Cal State Fullerton (11-17, 5-10 Big West) for Senior Night on Saturday, March 7 at 5:00 pm at the Stan Sheriff Center. It will be the final home game for Ashleigh Karaitiana, Shawna-Lei Kuehu, Morgan Mason and Shawlina Segovia.

The 13-game win streak is the longest during head coach Laura Beeman's three-year tenure. It is also the longest since UH won 19-straight games under then head coach Vince Goo in 1997-98. Hawai'i also has a 14-game conference home game win streak dating back to last season and possess a six-game road win streak this season as well.  The Rainbow Wahine, who are now 21-7 overall and 13-2 in the Big West, hit the 20-win mark for the 13th time in school history. It is the first time UH has had 20 wins since the 2001-02 season when the 'Bows went 23-8 overall. With Hawai'i wrapping up the regular season title, the 'Bows are guaranteed a third-straight post-season berth. The Big West regular season champions receive a spot in the WNIT and the BWC Tournament champions get the automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.

For the Rainbow Wahine, it is their first conference title since the 'Bows won the Western Athletic Pacific Division crown in 1997-98 under head coach Vince Goo. It also marks UH's third Big West title after Goo led the 'Bows to back-to-back first place finishes in 1992-93 and 1993-94.

On Thursday night, Hawai'i dismantled UC Santa Barbara in a 60-36 rout at the Thunderdome. The Rainbow Wahine used 14-0 runs in the first and second halves which propelled them to victory. With the win, UH also eliminated the Gauchos (2-26, 2-13) from next week's Big West Tournament. UH completely dominated the second half, out-scoring UCSB, 30-13.  After the Gauchos scored the first five points of the half, the 'Bows took over, scoring 14 unanswered during a 24-2 run over a 12:36 stretch. Hawai'i increased its lead from 30-28 to 54-30 and the rout was on with just over 5:00 to play. Destiny King led the Rainbow Wahine with 11 points and nine rebounds—the fifth time during conference play that she's ended a game one rebound shy of a double-double.  Dalayna Sampton and Connie Morris each chipped in with nine points. Shawna-Lei Kuehu and Megan Huff added eight points each as nine of the 11 players suited up scored for Hawai'i. Senior Ashleigh Karaitiana missed her first career game due to precautionary reasons.

Saturday's game is a "Whiteout" and fans are encouraged to wear white. The Rainbow Wahine are also hosting its first ever Youth Outreach (YO)Sneaker Drive. Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used sneakers to donate to YO which is a is a program of Waikiki Health which serves as a safe haven for homeless youths, offering medical care, social services and non-judgmental support.
