HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i softball team (17-12, 0-0 Big West) was edged out by St. Bonaventure, 2-1 on the third night of the Hawai'i Pacific Health Rainbow Wahine Classic. UH pitcher Brittany Hitchcock fired a complete game in the loss which dropped her record to 8-5 overall. Hawai'i out-hit the Bonnies, 8-to-4, but was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities, stranding nine runners left on base.

St. Bonaventure (3-8, 0-0 A-10) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Emily McDonough led off the game with a triple into the leftfield corner. After a groundout back to the pitcher, Grace Rooney drove in McDonough on a fielder's choice to second base.

The Bonnies added another run in the top of the fifth to go up 2-0. Desiree Gonzalez led the inning off with a double ripped down the leftfield line. A sacrifice bunt by Emily Belfield pushed Gonzalez to third and an out later, Lauren Waite drove in Gonzalez with a looping single to left.

The Rainbow Wahine's Ulu Matagiese led the fifth off with a double to the left-centerfield gap. After a ground out to short, Keiki Carlos followed by drilling the second double of the inning to left-center to drive in Matagiese from second. Kayla Wartner then drew a walk which ushered in a new pitcher, Kristen Hickling. But Hickling got out of the jam, getting an out on a sacrifice bunt and a fly out to right to thwart the rally.

The 'Bows were able to get the leadoff batter on in six out of the seven innings—five off of hits. UH had runners on base in every inning and runners in scoring position in five innings. But St. Bonaventure was able to escape unscathed.

Hitchcock faced just 26 batters in seven innings of work. She gave up two runs on four hits with no walks and four strike outs.

SBU's Josie Borysevicz (3-3) earned the win throwing 4.1 innings. She allowed one run on six hits with a walk. Hickling closed the game, tossing the final 2.2 innings. She gave up two hits with a walk.

The Hawai'i Pacific Health Rainbow Wahine Classic continues on Saturday with four game. UH will play Virginia Tech in the final game of the night at 6:00 p.m.
