Game NotesHONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team clashes with Cal Poly in a meeting of Big West front-runners on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 5:00 pm. After defeating UC Santa Barbara (60-43) on Thursday night, the Rainbow Wahine are now focusing in on avenging their conference opening loss in San Luis Obispo. Hawai'i is currently riding a six-game winning streak--the longest under head coach
Laura Beeman and the longest since the 2006-07 season when the 'Bows won eight straight. Hawai'i has now won 11-straight conference home games dating back to last season.
Most recently, the Rainbow Wahine shook off a feisty and hungry UCSB Gaucho team for the win. In the first half, both teams traded several leads before UH closed out the half with a 7-0 run to take a 30-23 advantage at the break. Spanning a seven-minute stretch between the first and second half, UH scored 11 unanswered and held UCSB scoreless for nearly seven minutes to push its lead to 34-23. UH extended the lead to 45-29 after consecutive buckets by
Shawna-Lei Kuehu and led by as many as 21 after a pair of
Morgan Mason free throws with 4:25 remaining.
UH was led by
Destiny King, who scored a game-high 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
Ashleigh Karaitiana added 13 points, including five straight to close out the first half to spur the Rainbow Wahine rally. Kuehu chipped in which 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
Overall, Kuehu continues to lead Hawai'i averaging 11.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. King is second on the team averaging 10.5 points per game while Karaitiana is averaging 10.4. Karaitiana also leads UH with 27 made 3-pointers and King and Karaitiana are tied with a team-high 27 steals. King—the only player to have started all 21 games this season—is second on the team with 6.4 rebounds per game.
Morgan Mason leads UH with 53 assists.
Cal Poly Mustangs (11-9, 6-2 Big West)The Mustangs are tied for the Big West lead with UH and Long Beach State with a 6-2 record. They have won four of their last five game with their only loss coming at UC Riverside on Jan. 24. Super guard Ariana Elegado leads Cal Poly with 15.2 points per game, 90 assists and 29 steals. Elegado is also tops on her team with 47 made 3-pointers. Kristen Ale is second on the team averaging just under 10 points at 9.9 per game and has 51 assists. Taryn Garza is averaging a team-high 7.2 rebounds per game and a team-best 11 blocked shots.

Laura Beeman is 48-35 in her third season at the helm of the Rainbow Wahine. Prior to UH, Beeman recorded a 390-110 record at Mt. San Antonio College (JuCo). Cal Poly's Faith Mimnauch is in her 18th season with the Mustangs with a 119-77 overall record and is 76-30 in conference games.
Series History: Cal Poly is 8-1 all-time against Hawai'i. The 'Bows opened the conference season this season with a 70-65 loss at Cal Poly. In 2013, when UH returned to the Big West, the 'Bows won their first meeting on Jan. 24, 2013 61-43. But since that game, Hawai'i has lost four straight, including an overtime heartbreaker last season, 78-74 on Jan. 8, 2014.
