Mike Thomas had a career-high 18 points to lead the University of Hawai'i men's basketball team to a hard-fought 59-56 win over Cal Poly on Thursday night at the Mott Athletics Center.

The 'Bows (16-8) notch their first-ever road win against the Mustangs and even their Big West Conference record at 4-4. Cal Poly falls to 10-11 overall and 3-6 in conference.

Thomas feasted in the paint, shooting a blistering 6-7 and hitting 6-10 from the free throw line while adding three blocks.
Stefan Jovanovic, who earned the start, scored eight points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Reese Morgan led the Mustangs with 16 points off the bench and Joel Awich pulled down a game-high 10 boards.

It was another great start for the 'Bows who scored the first seven points of the game. Thomas hit three free throws and
Aaron Valdes threw down an alley-oop dunk from
Roderick Bobbitt. The home team would respond and take its first lead at 17-14 with 7:28 to play in the first half. Thomas had a team-high 10 points in the first half as Cal Poly took a 28-26 lead into the locker room.

Garrett Nevels caught fire in the second half, hitting back-to-back threes to regain the lead for the 'Bows. Bobbitt, held scoreless for most of the game, had two late buckets to help UH hold on for the win.

Hawai'i concludes its road trip on Saturday at UC Santa Barbara with a nationally televised game on ESPNU. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m. PT (5:00 p.m. HT).
