Softball Hosts Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i softball team continues its homestand with the Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament, Feb. 26-Mar.1. No. 18/19 California, Longwood and San Jose State will all be coming to Honolulu for the four-day tourney.
 
Hawai'i recorded a 2-3 record in last week's Bank of Hawai'i Invitational. UH defeated UTEP twice but also fell twice to No. 19 UCF and once to No. 17 Washington. Sophomore shortstop Sarina Jaramillo earned all-tournament honors after hitting a team-high .429 in five games. She went 6-for-14 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI. 'Ulu Matagiese was second on the team with a .333 average (4-for-12) with three runs scored and an RBI. In the pitching circle, Kanani 'Aina Cabrales appeared in all five games, going 1-2 with a save. She threw 14.1 innings with a 1.95 ERA with two walks and seven strike outs.
 
Overall, Hawai'i is led by Kayla Wartner with a .386 average (17-for-44) with a team-high 13 runs scored, seven doubles and four RBI. Jaramillo raised her average to .341 overall (15-for-44) with 12 RBI and eight runs scored while Matagiese is hitting an even .300 (6-for-20) with a double, a triple, and four runs. Lindsey Willmon leads UH with 13 RBI and is second on the team with 10 runs scored. She is hitting .294 with five doubles, a triple and two home runs.

Series history: California holds a 21-10 series record against UH. UH won the last meeting last season, 6-2 (3/8/14). Hawai'i is 3-1 against Longwood all-time, with UH winning the last meeting, 3-2 (3/14/11). The 'Bows have a 72-27 record against San Jose State. UH has won the last four games, including last season in Honolulu in the 2014 Bank of Hawai'i Invitational, 11-9 (2/20/14).
