Brook Sedore vs. USC

Men's Volleyball

Men's Volleyball Takes On CBU, Sedore AVCA Player Of The Week

Game Notes

The No. 6 University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team (7-3, 4-2 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) hits the road for the second time this season to face Cal Baptist (3-9, 1-8 MPSF), Feb. 11 and Feb. 13 for a pair of conference matches.

UH leads the series 5-3 and swept Cal Baptist last season at the Stan Sheriff Center. After splitting 1-1 last week at home against USC, the Rainbow Warriors look to advance their MPSF record with another sweep over the Lancers. CBU extended a five-game losing streak last week after dropping both matches at BYU (Feb. 6-7).

Senior Brook Sedore was named Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week (Feb. 10-16) after his performance last week, where he recorded 20+ kills two nights in a row over USC. He was also awarded conference player of the week honors earlier this week. It is already UH's second AVCA weekly award this season and 21st all-time, with Taylor Averill most recently earning the title on Feb. 19.

This week the Rainbow Warriors are ranked second in the conference in kills with 496 (13.05 K/S) and in assists with 463 (12.18 A/S). Junior libero Kolby Kanetake is also ranked second in the MPSF in digs, averaging 2.66 per set. Sedore is currently third in the conference in points, with a total of 164.0 (4.32 P/S).

The Rainbow Warriors come off of a thrilling series against the Trojans. On Feb. 4, UH came back from behind to take the last three sets over USC at the Stan Sheriff Center, with Sedore leading the team with a season-high 22 kills. In the series-finale on Feb. 6, the 'Bows took the Trojans to five sets again, but fell just short in the end. Senior Scott Hartley stepped up for the Warriors, filling in for an injured Sinisa Zarkovic. Hartley netted a career-high 12 kills on Friday, while adding three service aces and four blocks.

Next week the Rainbow Warriors return home to host Cal State Northridge on Feb. 20 and Feb. 22.
