Â
The Spartans (2-9, 0-0 Mountain West) put up a tough fight against the Rainbow Wahine throughout the entire game, but UH triumphed across the board and notably cut down on turnovers with a season-low 11, just two days after committing a season-high 34 at Sacramento State.
Â
Junior
Briana Harris came off the bench to lead the 'Bows with a season-high 20 points and matched her career-high five treys (5-10, .500 3pt FG%). Senior
Kalei Adolpho had also breakthrough performance, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds for just the second double-double of her career and second for the team this season.
Â
In a close game of runs, the 'Bows came out on top after cleaning up their number of turnovers, hitting 12-for-20 free throw opportunities (.600 FT%), and out-rebounding the Spartans, 43-35.
Â
While UH had the hot hand from three-point range (8-21-.381 3pt FG%), so did SJSU (5-15-.333 3pt FG%). The Spartans opened the game strong with Myzhanique Ladd and Dezz Ramos sinking back-to-back treys for a 12-5 advantage midway through the first quarter. The Bows' quickly responded with two-straight three pointers of their own by Harris and
Ashleigh Karaitiana (11 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals) and sparked a 10-1 run to steal the lead. In the last second of play however, Ramos tied it at 18 for SJSU going 3-3 at the free throw line.
Â
The Spartans remained one step ahead of the 'Bows to start the second period, but UH ignited a 12-4 run to reclaim the lead. Neck-and-neck until the end, the 'Bows reached for a 34-30 advantage at the halftime buzzer after a layup by Harris with 13 seconds on the clock.
Â
Out of intermission, UH kicked off the third quarter with a solid 10-4 run, but the Spartans soon recovered from their field goal drought and ended the period tying it at 51 off of four unanswered points topped off with a three-pointer from Ladd.
Â
Harris led the 'Bows through a triumphant final quarter with three treys, netting a pair in just the first three minutes. UH took its largest lead of the game, 73-65 with less than minute remaining and despite the Spartans' threatening late run, the Rainbow Wahine held on for the win.
