HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team (4-5, 0-0 Big West Conference) defeated Brigham Young-Hawai`i (3-2, 0-0 PacWest) in an exhibition match-up, 68-57, Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.Â

BYUH put up a tough fight throughout the first three periods, with the 'Bows unable to gain more than a seven-point advantage. However, UH kicked up its' intensity late in the game and never looked back. In the final quarter alone, the 'Bows pulled down 12 boards, topping BYUH 8-0 in offensive rebounds and chased every opportunity scoring six second-chance points and 10-points off of the Seasiders' 10 turnovers. Despite going 23-for-47 from the field, UH finished with 41 rebounds (25 offensive), 13 steals, only committing six turnovers while forcing 26 on BYUH's side.Â

Kalei Adolpho led the Rainbow Wahine with 20-points, more than her career-high (17), seven rebounds, three steals, and three blocks.
Sarah Toeaina (16 pts, six rebounds) and
Ashleigh Karaitiana (13 pts, three assists, four steals, seven rebounds) also posted double-digits on the scoreboard for UH.
The Rainbow Wahine held on to just a one-point lead, 18-17 to end the first quarter, struggling to find the net (6-21-.286 FG%) with the Seasiders both outshooting (6-13-.462 FG%)Â and out rebounding them (12-11). BYUH remained close behind throughout the second period until UH cornered them into a three-minute scoring drought. The 'Bows reclaimed a four-point lead after a 5-0 run, but the Seasiders were able to score off of a final fast-break right before the halftime buzzer to cut into UH's advantage, 31-29.Â
Following intermission, UH footed a six-point advantage, but soon fell victim to a six-minute scoring drought as the Seasiders climbed back for a 41-36 lead. With just three minutes left in the third quarter,
Ashleigh Karaitiana, hit a game-changing trey, igniting a 9-0 run towards the Rainbow Wahine's 45-41 lead to end the period.Â
After a lackluster first three quarters, UH was finally able to tighten up in the final period and come back from its' slump. With the Seasiders close on their tail, the Rainbow Wahine pulled off an explosive 17-7 run midway through the fourth and leapt to their largest lead of the night, 62-51 and never looked back.

BYUH's Celeste Claw led the Seasiders with a game-high 21 points, remarkably hitting five-of-six treys, while Valerie Nawahine led in rebounding with nine boards.
After three-straight weeks on the island, UH hits the road again to take on Sacramento State, Dec. 20 and San Jose State, Dec. 22. The Rainbow Wahine will return to the Stan Sheriff Center on Jan. 2 to host Pennsylvania.Â
