HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team fell to No. 2 South Carolina, 67-51 on Sunday night to conclude the 2015 Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Shootout at the Stan Sheriff Center. UH falls to a 4-3, 0-0 Big West record, while SC remains undefeated, 7-0, 0-0 SEC.

UH put up a tough fight from start to finish, but were unable to rise under the Gamecocks' pressure. The 'Bows collected 20 turnovers, allowing the Gamecocks to score off of over half of those opportunities (23-pts off of TOs) and uncharacteristically struggled both at the free throw line (8-18-44% FT) and from the field (19-50-38% FGs).

Despite their missed chances, the Rainbow Wahine remained aggressive under the rim, out-rebounding SC, 33-30. Senior Destiny King led UH with 15 points for her second-straight double-figure game and added seven rebounds, two steals, and three assists.

The 'Bows started out strong against the Gamecocks in the first quarter and even took the lead as the clock wound down after sophomore Megan Huff hit three-straight jumpers. After sticking close behind SC throughout the first half, UH remained under a 10-point deficit until the final four minutes of the third quarter. However, after a half court shot at the buzzer by Khadijah Sessions, SC jumped to a 51-35 lead and carried over the momentum into the final period.

All-American A'ja Wilson was named the tournament MVP after leading the Gamecocks with a game-high 18 points and five rebounds. SC's Bianca Cuevas (13pts, four rebounds, two steals) was also named to the all-tournament team, while sophomore Megan Huff (13 points, four rebounds) represented UH.

Arizona State's Quinn Dornstauder and Katie Hempen, as well as CSU Bakersfield's Batabe Zempare were also named to the roster.

UH will next face another set of tough opponents as they enter the Tom Weston Invitational, hosted by BYU-Hawai'i in Laie, O'ahu. The 'Bows open play against BYU-Provo, Dec. 3 at 6:00 p.m. HT and take on Texas A&M, Dec. 3 at 5:00 p.m.
