HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team fell to No. 16/18 Arizona State, 75-49 on day two of the 2015 Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Shootout, Saturday afternoon at the Stan Sheriff Center. UH drops to a 4-2, 0-0 Big West record, while ASU advances 2-2, 0-0 Pac-12.

UH struggled to find the net under the Sun Devils' pressure and ended the night with a season-low 49 points (19-49-.388 FGs), resulting in its' largest margin of defeat since Nov. 9, 2013 when Rainbow Wahine last faced ASU (-40pts, L, 44-84).

The Sun Devils lit up the scoreboard shooting 30-54 (.556) from the field, and 13-19 (.684) from the free throw line. UH led in rebounding, 36-24 but was unable to match ASU's hard-hitting defense (five blocks, seven steals, 24 rebounds, 13 second-chance points, 31-pts off TOs), committing 20 turnovers.

Senior Destiny King posted a game-high and season-high 16 points, while sophomore Megan Huff hit her second-straight double-figure scoring game with 11 points and led the team with six rebounds.

After opening the first quarter posting a solid defensive game with 15 rebounds over ASU, the Rainbow Wahine finished the period just behind the Sun Devils, 12-11. They managed to grab a two-point lead just above the one-minute mark after two-straight baskets by Megan Huff, but ASU quickly answered back with a 3-0 edge.

The Sun Devils exploded in the second quarter with a 26-7 run for a 37-20 halftime lead, holding the 'Bows to just three field goals the entire period. From that point, UH could not recover despite a significant improvement from 31% to 48% in field goals, as senior Ashleigh Karaitiana and sophomore Sarah Toeaina headed into foul trouble with four each in the third period.

UH's record against ranked teams drops to 10-84 all-time. The Rainbow Wahine will conclude the tournament tomorrow afternoon as they take on the No. 2 South Carolina Gamecocks (5-0, 0-0 SEC), who defeated CSU Bakersfield, 90-71 today. Tip off is set for 4:00 p.m. HT at the Stan Sheriff Center.
