HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team opened the 2015-16 season with its Green & White scrimmage on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center with White holding off Green, 48-47. Â

Senior forward
Destiny King posted 17 points in the White team's favor, while sophomore
Sarah Toeaina and freshman
Leah Salanoa stepped up with nine points each for Green. Additionally, senior
Kalei Adolpho reached for a game-high 11 rebounds, while freshman
Olivia Crawford (eight points), made a standout debut walking away 2-5 in three-pointers.

Although White held a nine-point advantage, 22-13 in the first period, Green heated up in the second, outscoring White 26-24 but still trailed 46-39 going in to the third. In the final 10-minute period Green pulled off an 8-2 run fuelled by a jumper and pair of free throws by senior
Ashleigh Karaitiana but despite bringing themselves within one point, White held on until the game clock expired.

UH is set to host an exhibition game against UH-Hilo on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center before officially opening the season on the road in Arizona against Grand Canyon (Nov. 13) and Northern Arizona (Nov. 15).
