Women's Hoops Takes on CSUN In Rematch

HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team (12-7, 4-2 Big West) is looking to avenge its 46-53 loss in Northridge just a few weeks ago to CSUN (14-7, 4-3 Big West). The Rainbow Wahine are coming off a hard-fought win over Long Beach State on Thursday night, 72-64 which moved UH into a tie with the 49ers for second place at 4-2--a half-game back of Cal Poly who is at 5-2. The Matadors are currently a half-game in back of Hawai'i and the Beach with a 4-3 conference record after falling at UC Riverside on Thursday night, 68-56 at home. The win over Long Beach State was the Rainbow Wahine's fourth straight victory since dropping its first two BWC games on the road to start the regular season. It is the first time under head coach Laura Beeman that the 'Bows have won four games in a row in her three year career at UH.

In Hawai'i's most recent win, senior Shawna-Lei Kuehu helped spur the 'Bows to the win with a team-high 15 points with a full stat sheet of six rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. Fellow senior Shawlina Segovia played her best game as a Rainbow Wahine recording her first career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds which tied Kuehu for the most pulled down this season for UH. Destiny King raised her season scoring average to 10.0 after scoring 12 points against LBSU. She was clutch down the stretch of the game making four of her made free throws in the last 40-seconds to seal the win. 

CSUN Matadors  (14-7, 4-3 Big West)
The Matadors followed their win over Long Beach State last week with a loss at home to UC Riverside this past Thursday. In the loss, CSUN's core three all scored in double-figures with Ashlee Guay leading the way with 15 points. Cinnamon Lister added 12 while Janae Sharpe chipped in with 11. Overall, CSUN is led by Guay who is averaging 15.4 points a game and has a team-high 93 assists and 31 steals. Sharpe is second on the team with 12.9 points a game with 69 assists and 21 steals while Lister has drained a team-high 44 3-pointers. On the boards, Camille Mahlknecht is averaging a team-high 8.2 rebounds a game.
   
As a team, CSUN--the defending conference champions--is tops in the league in several statistical categories, including scoring defense (59.8); free throw percentage (.725); field goal percentage (.367); blocked shots (75); and defensive rebounds (28.76).

Head Coaches: Hawai'i's Laura Beeman is 46-35 in her third season at the helm of the Rainbow Wahine. Prior to UH, Beeman recorded a 390-110 record at Mt. San Antonio College (JuCo). CSUN's head coach is Jason Flowers is in his fifth season and has a 69-78 record.
Series History: Hawai'i holds a 6-2 series lead vs. CSUN. In the first week of the conference season, the Matadors held off the 'Bows, 53-46 in Northridge. Megan Huff stepped up to tally a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds to lead UH who was missing leading scorer Shawna-Lei Kuehu and one of the team's top reserves, Sarah Toeaina. CSUN's Ashlee Guay led the Matadors with 16 points while both Janae Sharpe and Cinnamon Lister added 12 points apiece.
