Track & Field In Fifth Heading Into Big West Championships Final Day

DAVIS, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team is in fifth place following Friday's events at the Big West Conference Championships at UC Davis' Toomey Field & Woody Wilson Track.
 
The meet concludes on Saturday with event finals on the track and several field events, including women's triple jump, shot put, and high jump.
 
On Friday, the Rainbow Wahine scored nine team points in the pole vault as three athletes placed in the top eight led by freshman Amber Kozaki who took fourth with a clearance of 12-8.25 (3.87m). The mark was the second best on the day but the Wailuku, Maui native lost the three-way tiebreaker on jumps.
 
Junior Robyn Morioka tied for fifth after clearing 12-2.5 (3.72m) while senior Juli Powell was eighth with a 11-8.5 (3.57m) vault.
 
One week after capturing the heptathlon title, senior Kaleigh Morrison competed in two events on Friday, placing fifth in the long jump competition with a jump of 18-10.75 (5.76m) and taking sixth in the javelin with a personal best throw of 133-6 (40.69m). Morrison's throw moved her up to seventh all-time in the UH record book.
 
Senior Shayna Dockery also competed in the javelin and was eighth at 126-10 (3.66m).
 
Junior Alex Porlier Langlois, who entered the meet ranked No. 2 in the discus, failed to post a mark. She can redeem herself on Saturday in the shot put competition, where she has the third-best mark in the conference.
 
On the track, Zhane Santiago qualified for the 100-meter hurdle finals after placing eighth in prelims with a time of 14.08 seconds. Freshman Raion Black just missed out on the 100-meter finals tying for 10th at 12.09 seconds, .06 from the qualifying mark.
 
In the team standings, the Rainbow Wahine are in fifth place with 27 points. Cal State Northridge leads the meet with 72 points followed by UC Davis (53), UC Santa Barbara (41), UC Irvine (37), UH, Long Beach State (26), Cal Poly (26), UC Riverside (24), and Cal State Fullerton (6).
