DAVIS, Calif. – After a handful of rain delays and three power outages, the University of Hawai'i men's tennis team prevailed for a 4-3 win over UC Davis at the Spare Time Indoor Tennis Center.
With the win, the 'Bows improve to 5-10 overall but a perfect 2-0 in Big West Conference play. The Aggies fell to 12-8 overall and 2-1 in league play.
The match, scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. Pacific start time, was forced indoors after numerous rain delays with singles play not starting until 9:45 p.m. Toward the end of singles action, the 'Bows trailed by a point before
Jonathan Brooklyn beat Alec Adamson in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 to even the match and send the teams back for doubles play.
The Aggies grabbed the first victory when
Chas Okamoto and
Danilo Casanova fell to James Wade and Brett Bacharach on the three court, but that proved to be the last win UCD would get from Hawai'i. Brooklyn and
Carter Lam posted an 8-3 win at No. 2 before
Nils Schuhmann and
David Schuster clinched the win with an 8-5 victory at No. 1, finally ending the match at 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday early morning.
The 'Bows now return home but will hit the road in mid April for another daunting road trip. UH will play three matches in five days to conclude the regular season, beginning with UC Riverside on April 14
