HONOLULU— The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team will remain at home to play a pair of non-conference matches against Pacific (Mar. 13) and Grand Canyon (Mar. 14) at the UH Tennis complex.
The Rainbow Wahine (5-7, 2-1 Big West) are playing well of late, winning their last three matches in dominant fashion. The 'Bows swept UC Riverside; edged out No. 51 Idaho; and blanked Sacred Heart this past Sunday.
Cindy Nguyen and
Martina Kostalova both have a three match winning streak in singles and doubles. Nguyen recently defeated SHU's Katie DeRienzo, 6-1, 6-2 in singles, and along with doubles partner
Rebecca Faltusz beat Lindsey Post and Paige Olson, 8-3. Kostalova cruised past SHU's Nicole Rydzewski, 6-2, 6-0 in singles, and with
Sarah Gealer defeated Nicole Rydzewski and Taylor Gurda, 8-2 in doubles.
Pacific (5-5, 0-0 West Coast) most recently defeated Youngstown State, 5-2. They are led by Junior Hana Ritterova, who has a 6-2 record and is currently on a two match winning streak in the No. 1 position in singles. She and partner Regina Suarez pace the team in doubles with eight victories. Pacific defeated Hawai'i 4-3 last season in Stockton, Calif.
Grand Canyon (5-3, 0-0 Western Athletic) last played on March 1st and won against Kansas City, 4-0. Priscilla Annoual is tied for the team-high for singles wins with a 7-0 record in the No. 1 position. Janaki Gunuganti is riding a seven match win-streak with 7-2 record. Gunuganti and partner Frederique Van de Velde lead the team in doubles with six victories. The pair is currently on a five match-win streak.
