Biography
2016-17 (Senior):
-Earned fourth straight all-Big West first team honors in singles and was named to the all-Big West second team with partner Klara Pribylova
-Is the first Rainbow Wahine to earn first team all-conference honors all four years, passing Diane Okada (1993, '94, '95) and Katarina Poljakova (2011, '12, '13) who both earned all-conference first team honors three times
-Earned third straight Big West All-Academic honors
-Awarded second individual ITA Scholar-Athlete honor
-Qualified for ITA All-American singles and doubles with partner Roxanne Resma
-Advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Southwest Regional Championships with partner Petra Melounova
-Competed in 19 singles matches with a 13-6 singles record, 62-30 overall.
-Played on both No. 1 and No. 2 courts in singles
-On Jan. 8, 2017 she defeated No. 31 Arianne Hartono 4-6, 6-4, 6-2
-Ranked as high as 96
-Earned her sixth BWC Player of the Week award to tie her for fourth all-time in Big West history
-With partner Klara Pribylova, posted a 3-1 win at No. 1 and 10-5 at No. 2 recording a team-best 13-6 record- including winning their last four decisions of the season
2015-16 (Junior):
-Earned third straight all-Big West first team honors in singles and was named to the all-Big West second team with partner Roxanne Resma
-Competed in 25 singles matches and played all but two matches on the No. 1 court, posting a 10-12 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the Big West.
-Earned second Big West all-Academic honors
-Finished the season strong, winning three of her last five matches with other two matches going unfinished
-In UH's BWC tourney semifinal match, faced Long Beach State's 82nd-ranked Maeva Razakasoa in a battle between the previous two Big West Players of the Year. With the match knotted at 3-3, it was Nguyen who came through with the clinch with a 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 62 Long Beach State.
-In doubles, posted a -15-7 overall record and a 4-2 record in conference with Resma.
-The pair played all but two matches on the No. 2 court.
-The duo won six their last eight decisions-including the last three-straight.
2014-15 (Sophomore):
-Competed in 21 singles and 19 doubles matches
-Went 15-6 overall in singles matches and 15-3 in dual matches while going undefeated in Big West play with a mark of 7-0
-All 18 dual matches were on No. 1 court
-Recorded a 5-14 mark in doubles matches, going 5-11 in dual matches and 3-3 in big West play, partnered once with Martina Kostalova, twice with Viktoria Malova, four times with Sarah Gealer, 5 times with Klara Pribylova, and 7 times with Rebecca Faltusz, who she posted a 5-2 record with including 3-0 in conference
-For the second year in a row she competed in NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship held in Waco, Texas
-Lost in the first round of NCAA Tournament to 60th ranked Beatrice Gumulya of Clemson (1-6, 4-6)
-On Mar. 6, 2015 she defeated No. 21 Ronit Yurovsky of Michigan 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (6)
-Ranked as high as 64, a career best
-Won 7 of last 9 matches with one unfinished
-First ever Rainbow Wahine tennis player to be named Big West Player of the Year
-Named Big West Honorable Mention in doubles with partner Rebecca Faltusz
-Named as ITA Player to Watch for the Southwest region
-Earned Big West all-Academic honors
2013-14 (Freshman):
-Competed in 27 singles and 31 doubles matches in her rookie season
-Was the first Rainbow Wahine tennis player to ever compete in the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship, which was held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga
-Was the highest-ranked player from the Big West (No. 123) therefore earning the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament
-She was one of 15 automatic qualifiers along with 49 at-large selections
-Was the only Big West player to compete in the tournament
-Was just the seventh player from the Big West to be selected to play in the NCAA Singles Championship
-Fell in opening round at NCAA tourney to No. 12 Breaunna Addison (Texas), 5-7, 2-6
-Led UH with a 22-5 overall singles record and had her 11-match win streak snapped in the opening round at the NCAA tournament
-In dual matches she recorded a 17-3 record and played all but one match at the No. 1 position
-Posted a 6-1 singles record in Big West matches
-In doubles, recorded a 14-13 overall record, 6-11 in dual matches, and 3-3 in Big West matches
-Went 8-5 when partnered with Xenia Suworowa (8-1 in tournament play and 0-4 in dual matches); 0-1 with partner Martina Kostalova; and 6-7 when partnered with Rebecca Faltusz--all in dual matches on the No. 2 court
-Was named Big West player of the Week twice: Feb. 2-knocked off Morgan McIntosh (Cal State Fullerton) and Shani Blecher (No. 61 San Diego) in No. 1 singles as well as knocking off CSF's Kalika Slevcove and Alexis Valenzuala, 8-3 in doubles with partner Rebecca Faltusz; April 2-toppled three Big West opponents on the No. 1 court--UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly and UC Irvine
-Earned all-Big West first team honors in singles
Prep:
-A 2013 graduate of Millikan High School in Long Beach, Calif
-Earned four varsity letters in tennis
-Won the league’s singles champion in 2011 and in 2012, was league champion for both singles and doubles
-Voted team’s Most Valuable Player in 2013 and won the Dodger’s Sportsmanship award in 2012
-Was named Dream Team Press Telegram Player of the Year in both 2012 & 2013
-Selected Millikan’s Player of the Year in her junior and senior seasons
