SANTA ANA, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team sits in ninth place after the first two rounds of the UC Irvine Invitational Monday at the Santa Ana Country Club.
The Rainbow Wahine began the 36-hole day tied for fourth place following Round 1 after a 303 but slipped five spots to ninth after a 314 in Round 2. With a combined score of 617, UH is one stroke behind host and fellow Big West member UCI (616).
Eighth-ranked Stanford is the Day 1 leader at 578, and holds a 10 stroke lead over No. 37 Texas A&M (588). No. 16 Pepperdine is third at 592 followed by Gonzaga (598) and Long Beach State (604).
Stanford's Mariah Stackhouse has a three stroke lead over Savannah Vilaubi of UC Riverside. Stackhouse fired rounds of 70 and 69 and is 5-under 139 for the tournament. Vilaubi shot consecutive rounds of 71 and is 2-under 142.
Leading the way for the Rainbow Wahine is freshman Kelli-Ann Katsuda, who shot 76 and 77 and is tied for 24
th at 9-over 153. One stroke back and in a tie for 31
st is freshman
Raquel Ek, who shot 75 and 79 for a 154 total. Fellow frosh
Izzy Leung is tied for 34
th at 155 (76-79).
Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine is senior
Charlee Kapiioho-Sagum (77-79), who is tied for 40
th at 156 and senior
Liana Otake (76-81), who is tied for 44
th at 157.
The tournament concludes on Tuesday with the third and final round.
