HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i softball team (9-7, 0-0 Big West) captured third place in the Bank of Hawaii Invitational with a 6-0 win over St. Mary's (5-10, 0-0 West Coast) on Sunday at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. UH freshman pitcher Heather Morales fired her third shut out of the season while getting the run support from a Keiki Carlos two-run double and a pair of two-run home runs by Leisha Li`ili`i. and Lindsey Willmon.

Morales fired seven complete innings, spacing seven hits with three walks and one strike out. She and the Hawai'i defense were able to strand nine St. Mary's runners on base to preserve the shut out.

Sarina Jaramillo started UH's rally in the top of the third inning. She led off the frame with a single to left and was followed by another single by Lindsey Willmon. On Willmon's hit, the leftfielder did not come up with the ball cleanly, which allowed both runners to move into scoring position. After a ground out to second, Carlos laced her double to the left-centerfield gap to drive in Jaramillo and Willmon. Li`ili`i then followed with her two-run blast to centerfield. It was her team-leading seventh home run of the season that gave UH a 4-0 lead.

In the top of the sixth inning, Jaramillo got things going again with a two-out single. Then Willmon extended UH's lead to 6-0 on a two-run home run over the right-centerfield fence. The freshman outfielder now is second on the team with six homers on the season.

St.Mary's Katie Moss took the loss, throwing the first 2.1 innings, giving up four runs on four hits with two walks and two strike outs. Sarah Lira followed by tossing the next 3.2 innings giving up two runs on five hits with a strike out. Lujane Mussadi closed the game for the Gaels throwing one full inning. She allowed just one hit.

Hawai`i posted a 2-3 record in the Bank of Hawaii Invitational while St. Mary's finished at 1-4. It marked the first shut out for UH since the second game of the season.
Hawai`i has this upcoming week off and then hosts their final two tournaments of the year, the Jack in the Box Spring Fling Tournament (March 5-9 - California, Pacific, James Madison) and the Pepsi Rainbow Wahine Classic (March 12-15 - BYU, James Madison, Oregon, Valparaiso).
