SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team finished in fourth place following the third and final round of the Matador Invitational, Tuesday at the Wood Ranch Golf Club.
The Rainbow Wahine fired a final round 314 to finish the two-day tournament at 933 (313-306-314) and third among the four Big West Conference teams. UH finished five strokes behind Cal Poly (928), which placed third overall. Host Cal State Northridge, another Big West team, captured the inaugural tournament at 887, 33 strokes ahead of runner-up Brigham Young (923).
For the fifth time this season, freshman
Izzy Leung was the team's top finisher at 16-over 232 (81-77-74). Her final round of 74 included four birdies through her first 12 holes which propelled her for a tie for 15
th place, her fourth Top 15 finish this season.
Freshman
Raquel Ek tied for 22
nd at 235 (78-78-79) after a final round 79 while freshman
Kelli-Anne Katsuda placed 24
th at 236 (84-73-79). Senior
Charlee Kapiioho-Sagum dropped back to 27
th place at 238 (77-78-83) while freshman
Brianna Becker rounded out the UH contingent in a tie for 32
nd at 243 (77-84-82).
CSUN's Clariss Guce took medalist honors with a final round 72 to finish at even par 216. Teammate Arinda Bhanaraksa and BYU's Lea Garner tied for second at 220.
The Rainbow Wahine will next compete in the UC Irvine Invitational, Feb. 24-25 in Santa Ana, Calif.
