SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team completed the first round of the Matador Invitational in fourth place, Monday at the Wood Ranch Golf Club.
The Rainbow Wahine fired rounds of 313 and 306 to finish the first day of competition at 619. Host CSU Northridge is atop the leader board at 590 with rounds of 284 and 306. BYU is second (612) followed by Cal Poly (617).
Leading the way for Hawai'i was senior
Charlee Kapiioho-Sagum, who shot 77 and 78 and is tied for 14
th place at 11-over 155. Freshman
Raquel Ek is one shot back at 156 with consecutive rounds of 78. The San Diego, Calif., native had a horrendous start to her day going 10-over through her first seven holes but settled down and shot 4-under over her final 11 holes of the first round. Counting her first three holes of Round 2, Ek was 5-under over a 14-hole stretch.
Freshman
Kelli-Anne Katsuda improved nine strokes from her Round 1 score of 83 with a 1-over 73 in Round 2 that included birdies at No. 3 and No. 6. Fellow frosh
Izzy Leung shot 81 and 77 for a 158 total and freshman
Brianna Becker is at 161 with rounds of 77 and 84.
CSUN's Arinda Bhanaraksa and Clarris Guce and USC's Victoria Morgan are tied for the lead at even par 144. BYU's Lea Garner is two strokes back at 2-over 146.
The third and final round is slated for a 7:00 a.m. PT shotgun start.
