Men’s Tennis Turned Back by Pacific, 5-2

Jonathan Brooklyn defeated Pacific's Sem Verbeek 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-6)
STOCKTON, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (1-3, 0-0 Big West) fell 5-2 to Pacific (2-1, 0-0 WCC) on Saturday afternoon in Stockton, California.

The Tigers took the early lead as they snatched the doubles point. Pacific's Sam Verbeek and Miguel Diaz won their match against UH's Carter Lam and Marcel Chen, 8-1. The 'Bows No. 1 pair of Jonathan Brooklyn and Danilo Casanova fought hard, but they too came up short against the Tiger's Daniel Almeh and Marlon Brand, 8-4.  The third match that featured UH's Nils Schuhmann and David Schuster against Erik Cederwall and Alex Hamilton did not finish due to Pacific winning the first two matches.

Pacific would win the first two matches in singles play. Schuhmann would earn the 'Bows first point, battling the Tiger's Denis Stolyarov all three sets. He won the first set 6-3, but Stolyarov would come back and win the second set 6-1. Schuhmann then won the final set in decisive fashion, 6-1. Pacific would then win the next two singles matches to claim the victory. The final match of the day was an exciting one as UH's No. 1 player Brooklyn faced off against Pacific's Verbeek. The two exchanged sets as Brooklyn claimed the first 6-4, and then dropped the second 4-6. The deciding set went into a tie breaker. It was Brooklyn who ended out on top, winning the tiebreaker 10-6, thus giving Hawai'i its second point.

The Rainbow Warriors will next play on Sunday, February 16 against Big West opponent UC Santa Barbara at the UH Tennis Complex.  The matches will start at 10:00 a.m.
