HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team hosts the power-packed Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Shootout this weekend at the Stan Sheriff Center. Hawai'i will take on Prairie View A&M (0-3, 0-0 SWAC) on Friday, Nov. 28 at 4:30 p.m. then battle No. 5/4 Stanford (3-1, 0-0 PAC-12) on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 4:30. The Rainbow Wahine will conclude the tourney with a game against No. 11/12 North Carolina (4-0, 0-0 ACC) at 4:30 on Sunday, Nov. 30.
 
The 'Bows split their two games in last week's Bank of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic, falling to No. 14 California, 79-72 on Friday night but bounced back on Sunday to defeat UNLV, 79-70. Against the Golden Bears, Shawna-Lei Kuehu led the scrappy Rainbow Wahine by posting career highs of 29 points and 15 rebounds. It was Kuehu's second double-double of the season and the fourth of her career. She also had two assists, two blocks and a steal to fill her stat line. Ashleigh Karaitiana continued her steady play with her second double-double of the season, scoring 14 points with 11 boards.
 
A trio of UH players scored in double-digits to lead UH to the win over the Rebels. Junior center Connie Morris scored a career-high 21 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the floor with seven rebounds.  Destiny King added 14 points with a team-high six assists while Karaitiana scored in double figures for the fourth straight game, chipping in with 13 points, three rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
 
Overall, Kuehu and Karaitiana are both averaging 12.8 points a game to pace the Rainbow Wahine. Kuehu also leads UH with 10.0 rebounds a game, six blocked shots and is tied with a team-high 10 assists with King and Morgan Mason. Mason is averaging 10.8 points a game and has made a team-high six 3-pointers and has a team-high seven steals.
 
Prairie View A&M is the four-time defending Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champions who have appeared in the last four straight NCAA tournaments. The Panthers are led by second year head coach Dawn Brown and are 0-3 thus far this season. In their most recent game against No. 7 Texas A&M, Jeanette Jackson led the Lady Panthers with 24 points with four assists. Shamiya Brooks pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds and blocked a career-high five shots.

No. 5/4 Stanford comes to Honolulu with a 3-1 record. In the first week of the season, Stanford snapped the No. 1-ranked UConn Huskies' 47-game win streak with an 88-86 overtime win. The Cardinal then rose to No. 1 in the USA Today poll, but were tripped up by No. 10 Texas this past Thursday night. The loss snapped Stanford's 28-home game win streak. But Stanford rebounded on Monday night with a 70-65 win at New Nexico in Albuquerque, N.M. The Cardinal are led by Lili Thompson who is averaging 26.0 points a game. She has shot 26-for-48 field goals for a .542 FG% and is also 7-of-16 from beyond the 3-point line. Amber Orrange is second on the team with 15.2 points per game and has a team-high 16 assists and 10 steals. Karlie Samuelson is the third Cardinal averagind double-digits in points with 10.5 per game. Kaylee Johnson leads Stanford on the glass averaging 13.0 rebounds per game.

No. 11/12 North Carolina rolls into Honolulu with a 4-0 record. The Tar Heels defeated Howard, 83-49 on Nov. 14 then knocked off UCLA, 84-68 two days later on Nov. 16. This past Wednesday, UNC edged out Oklahoma State in a tight 79-77 win. Most recently, North Carolina blew out Oregon in Eugene, Ore., 76-59. Alisha Gray leads a trio of double-digit scorers for the Tar Heels. She is averaging a shade under 20 points a game at 19.5 and she has averaged 6.8 rebounds per game. Xylina McDaniel is scoring 14.0 points and 7.8 boards a game while Stephanie Mavunga is scoring 13.8 points per game with a team-high 11.0 rebounds a game. She also leads UNC with 13 blocked shots and is tied for the team-lead with eight steals with Gray.

Tickets: General admission-adult: $7; General Admission-Senior Citizen: $5; Students (ages 4-high school): $3; UH Manoa Students receive admission to regular season home games by presenting a valid UH I.D. Following the women's basketball game, the arena will be cleared for the 8:00 women's volleyball game. 
Promotions: The Waikiki Beach Marriott is the tournament sponsor and will award a two-nights stay in an Ocean View Room and dinner buffet for two during the halftime contest at each UH game. Also, the Waikiki Beach Marriott will award prize packs  to "Lucky Seat" winners throughout the tournament. Fans can register to participate at the sports marketing table near Gate A.
**Fans Encouraged To Donate Non-Perishable Food Items At Women's B-Ball Tourney - Basketball fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Shootout at the Stan Sheriff Center on either Friday (Nov. 28), Saturday (Nov. 29), or Sunday (Nov. 30) to help feed Hawaii's hungry. The items will be provided to the Hawaii Food Bank. Suggested items include: canned protein (meat, tuna and chicken), canned meals (stew, spaghetti, and chili), canned vegetables, canned fruits, and rice. A collection table will be located inside Gate A and fans can register for the chance to win a special prize.
**At halftime of the Hawai'i vs. Stanford game, former Hawai'i Congresswoman Patsy Mink will be honored for authoring the Women's Educational Equity Act better known as the Title IX Amendment of Higher Education. Earlier this week Mink was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.
Television: UH's games vs. Prairie View A&M and North Carolina will be televised live statewide on OCSports -Channels 16 (SD) and 1015 (HD). Jim Leahey (play-by-play) and Lori Santi (color) will be handling the broadcast duties.
Streaming Video: All of UH's three games will have live video streaming available on bigwest.tv. 
Radio: ESPN 1420 AM will carry the Friday and Sunday's games and NBC Sportsradio 1500 AM will cover Saturday's game against Stanford. Dave Kawada (play-by-play) and Tiff Wells (color) will be covering the games. Neighbor islands can listen live on KNUI on Maui, KHLO in Hilo, KKON in Kona, and KTOH on Kaua'i for Friday and Sunday.

Coaches: Hawai'i head coach Laura Beeman is in her third season and currently has a 37-29 record with UH. As the head coach at Mt. San Antonio, Beeman compiled a 390-110 record in the junior college ranks. Prairie View A&M is led by head coach Dawn Brown who is 14-20 and is in her second season with the Lady Panthers. Stanford's Tara VanDerveer is in her 29th season at Stanford and has a 777-157 record with the Cardinal. Overall, VanDerveer has a 929-208 career record. North Carolina's Sylvia Hatchett returns to the court after a year away from the game as she battled leukemia. She is in her 29th season at UNC with a 666-251 record with the Tar Heels 941-331. Her career record is 935-331 in 40 seasons.
