Rainbow Wahine Open 2014 Against No. 19 Baylor

The Rainbow Wahine are set to play No.19 Baylor
HONOLULU-The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team will open up their spring season against Baylor on January 11th at the University of Hawai'i Tennis Complex.  Matches will start at 11:00 a.m.

The Rainbow Wahine are looking to secure their first victory of the spring season after having a tough fall that included playing Stanford, who is ranked number one. Last season the Wahine posted a 6-14 record, 4-4 in conference play.  They made it to the Big West Tournament, and had a run to the Big West semifinals before falling to UC Irvine.

The Rainbow Wahine returns six players from last season.  They are led by seniors Kelsey Daguio and Xenia Suworowa. Daguio appeared in 18 singles and 14 doubles contests last season. Surworowa appeared in 17 singles and 18 doubles contests, and earned first-team all-Big West honors for both singles and doubles.  Also returning are Daisy Green, Paulina Petriskova, Martina Kostalova, and Rebecca Faultz. In the fall the team welcomed two new players, freshman Cindy Nguyen and sophomore Sarah Gealer.

Baylor comes into the new year ranked 19th in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. They have three players who are ranked amongst the best in the country.  Sophomore Kiah Generette is ranked 38th in singles, while the doubles duo of Victoria Kisialeva and Blair Shankle are ranked 37th. The Bears recorded a 17-15 record last season, and finished ranked 20th in the country.
