STANFORD, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team fell to No. 40 Stanford, 7-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the Stanford Tennis Complex.
The Cardinal would take the early lead and snatch the doubles point to start the match. Stanford's No. 3 pair of Trey Strobel and Jamin Bell would prove too much for the 'Bows
Chris Meyer and
David Schuster as they went on to a 6-1 victory. On the No. 2 court UH's
Carter Lam and
Marcel Chan fought hard against Yale Goldberg and Maciek Romanowciz, but they fell short 6-3 as Stanford grabbed the doubles point.
In singles play,
Chas Okamoto,
Nils Schuhmann, and
Jonathan Brooklyn each had their matches go three sets. Okamoto dropped his first set 6-3 to Stanford's Anthony Tsodikov, then came storming back to win 7-5 but fell in the decisive third set. Brooklyn competed well against Maciek Romanowicz gaining the advantage by winning the first set 6-4. Romanowicz would strike back in the next set 6-4, and swung past Brooklyn 10-7 in the deciding set.
The Rainbow Warriors next face No. 16 California in Berkley, Calif. on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 1:30 p.m. PT.
