Box Score

HONOLULU – Jonathan Brooklyn and Carter Lam won in both doubles and singles to propel the University of Hawai'i men's tennis team to a season opening win against Sacramento State on Friday at the UH Tennis Complex.

The pairs of Brooklyn and Danilo Casanova, and Lam and Marcel Chan made quick work of their opponents to grab the doubles point for the 'Bows. They won by 6-3 and 6-2 scores, respectively.

Five singles was the first to finish, as Sac State evened the match with a straight-set win by Tom Miller over UH's Pavel Liska. The next three matches to finish, however, were all won by Hawai'i as the Rainbow Warriors earned the four points and the season opening win. Brooklyn topped Marek Marksoo in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, Lam beat Ayman Abdulwahab with a second-set tiebreak win, and David Schuster went the distance for a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 win on the No. 4 court to clinch the victory.

The 'Bows next head out on an early season west coast road trip. UH will play at Stanford (Jan. 29), California (Jan. 30), and Pacific (Feb. 1).
