Full Day One Results
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team are in a tie for 12th place following the first day of the ICSA APS Team Race National Championship Saturday at the Magnuson Hotel Marina Cove on Tampa Bay. The Rainbows won just two of 10 races in head-to-head round-robin action and with those results have been eliminated from title contention.
The APS Team Race Championship brings together 14 of the country's best team racing teams for a three-day championship. Each team has three boats and teams face off against each other one at a time, so each race is either a win or a loss. After a round robin, when a team races against all the others, the top four teams will split off for a “Final Four.”
The Rainbows will continue to race tomorrow with three more races to complete a full round robin. However, with a 2-8 record, the Rainbows have already been delegated to the consolation round once the round-robin is completed. A total of 64 races were completed after the first day with Brown (8-2), Stanford (8-2), Yale (8-2) and College of Charleston (7-2) leading the way.
