LONG BEACH, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i sailing team wrapped up weekend competition at the PCCSC Mark Healy Open Fleet Race Championship, hosted by Southern Cal on April 18-19. Competing in a crowded 17-team field, the Rainbows secured a ninth-place overall finish.
Stanford captured the regatta title with a low of 94 total points, followed by runner-up San Diego State (108 points) and host Southern Cal (136 points). Hawai'i accumulated 263 total points across 14 races in both the A and B divisions. Stanford and SDSU received the conference's automatic berths to the ICSA National Championship next month in St. Petersburg, Fla.
In Division A, the Rainbows tallied 119 points to finish ninth in their grouping. Skipper Erik Anderson and crew Amanda Turner sailed all 14 races for Hawaii, turning in a solid performance that was highlighted by three runner-up finishes in the fourth, fifth, and ninth races.
Hawai'i also collected a ninth-place finish in Division B, compiling 144 points. Everett McAvoy skippered the majority of the races for the Rainbows, while William Bagley took the helm for a pair of races. They were joined by a rotation of crews that included Alister Muto, Peyton Lieser, and Leila Landay.
