Sailing Opens 2026-27 Campaign At PCCSC Singlehanded Championships

SEATTLE, Wash. - Under the direction of new head coach Dave Siegal, the University of Hawai'i sailing program opened its 2026-27 season this weekend at the PCCSC Singlehanded Championships with the Rainbow Wahine competing in the women's championship and the coed team competing in the open championship.

Hosted by the University of Washington, Sept. 19 -20, the conference championships featured sailors competing in Lasers in a singlehanded format. On the open side, two UH sailors competed - sophomore William Bagley, and senior Spencer Fleming. Bagley led the Rainbow Warriors with a fourth-place finish, totaling 36 points across the regatta. Stanford's Thomas Sitzmann won the championship convincingly, with eight points, claiming first place in all eight races.

On the women's side, seniors Martha Schuessler and Stella Taherian represented Hawai'i, finishing fourth and fifth. Schuessler finished with 26 points, while Taherian totaled 27 points. Stanford's Avery Baldwin was also dominant on the women's side, finishing first in all seven races. Her seven-point total easily distanced her from California's Venetia Satow who finished runner-up with 22 points.

Both the women and coed teams next head to the East Coast. The Rainbow Wahine will compete at the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship in Brunswick, Maine, on October 3-4, while the coed team will compete on that same weekend at the Charleston Fall Interconference.
