SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of Hawai`i coed sailing team placed second at the PCCSC Team Racing Championships, held April 5 at the San Diego Yacht Club. With that finish the Rainbows earned a spot in next month's ICSA Team Race National Championship.
Competing in a head-to-head, round-robin format, UH went 7-3 overall while competing against seven other West Coast schools. Sailing for the Rainbows were
Madeline Kennedy (skipper),
Lindsay Stewart (crew),
Mitchell Icard (skipper),
Ana-Melissa Kea (crew),
Adam Pokras (skipper) and
Kellie Yamada (crew).
Stanford won the regatta with a perfect 10-0 record and also earned a berth to the nationals which will be held May 25-27 in St. Petersburg, Fla. UH will be participating in the team race national for the 11th time in school history and the first time since 2010. The Rainbows traveled to Madison, Wis., that year where they finished 11th overall.
Hawai'i will now look to qualify for the other legs of the ICSA nationals when they compete in the PCCSC Coed Dinghy (April 6-7) and Women's (April 20-21) Championships in San Diego and Santa Barbara, respectively.
