Rainbow Sailors Finish 12th at ICSA National Semis

HAMPTON, Va. –The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team missed the national finals cut after finishing in 12th place at the ICSA National Semifinals hosted by Hampton and Old Dominion Universities April 27-28. 
 
Thirty-five college teams descended on Virginia's shores with the teams split into two divisions. The top nine schools in each fleet qualified to compete in the ICSA Coed Dinghy National Championship Finals May 28-30 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
 
UH fell short in the Western Division semifinal, totaling 269 points, 38 points behind ninth-place Wisconsin. Yale captured the Western Division with 112 points, while Stanford won the Eastern Division fleet.
 
A total of 26 races were completed over the weekend in each division. Adam Pokras and Kellie Yamada finished in 10th in the A division with 136 points, Madeline Kennedy, Lindsay Stewart and Patrick Manuel placed 12th in the B division with 133 points.
 
The coed team, however, will still make an appeance in Florida as they compete in the  ICSA Team Race National Championship, May 25-27, hosted by the University of South Florida, Eckerd College, and the St. Petersburg Yacht Club.
