HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. – The No. 5 University of Hawai`i women's sand volleyball team wrapped up day one of the USA Volleyball Beach Collegiate Challenge with a 2-1 record in dual match competitions.
 
The Rainbow Wahine dropped the first of its three matches to top-ranked Pepperdine, 5-0. The Waves also blanked UH earlier this month in Malibu. UH, however, rebounded in its next two matches, taking down Santa Clara, 4-1, and No. 6 UCLA, 3-2, in the very first meeting on the sand against each program. With Saturday's action, the Rainbow Wahine closed out its regular-season dual match schedule with a mark of 6-7.
 
The Collegiate Challenge will continue on Sunday with a flighted pairs championship consisting of gold, silver and bronze divisions. Competition begins at 9 a.m. PT.
