No. 15/20 Hawai`i Concludes Roadtrip at Cal Poly

Game Notes

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.—The No. 15/20 University of Hawai'i softball team (34-8, 11-1 Big West) completes its 11-day roadtrip with a three-game conference series at Cal Poly (18-21, 7-8 BWC) in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Hawai'i maintained first place in the Big West, knocking off Cal State Fullerton to capture its fourth conference series of the season. However, the Titans snapped UH's 13-game win streak in a mercy-rule 11-3 victory in the series finale on Sunday. It was the first conference loss for UH and it was the second time that the 'Bows fell in five innings this season.

Hawai'i's senior pitcher Kaia Parnaby continues to be the cornerstone of the squad. She improved to 31-4 overall with a win at Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday. Parnaby leads the NCAA DI with 31 wins and she is ranked No. 2 in strike outs at the beginning of the week. She is also ranked No. 3 with 10 shutouts and No. 19 with a 1.42 ERA. Parnaby is now just one win shy of tying Melissa Coogan who set the UH single-season record of 32 wins in 2003. She also one of only three pitchers in UH history and 10 pitchers in Big West history to win 30 games in a season. Parnaby is now tied for fifth in conference single-season annals for victories. She has a legitimate chance of breaking the all-time mark of 35 wins, set by Rhonda Wheatley of Cal Poly Pomona in 1987. The southpaw is also now No. 2 in UH history and No. 5 in Big West single-season history with 280 strikeouts. Former UH All-American Brooke Wilkins is the leader for both UH and the BWC with 324 single-season K's.

At the plate, senior centerfielder Kelly Majam leads Hawai'i with a .344 batting average, 46 runs scored, 42 hits, 15 home runs, and 34 walks. She also leads the 'Bows with nine stolen bases, an .811 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage.  Majam is also tied for the team-lead with nine multiple RBI games with freshman Keiki Carlos and Majam has reached base safely in the last 18 straight games and has been on base for the 'Bows in all but three games for UH this season. Against the Titans, Majam led UH with eight runs scored--four of which game in the series opener to tie her career high. Majam is also on a six-game hitting streak. Majam also leads the Big West with her 15 home runs--a total that ties her for fourth-most in Big West history and ties her total for all of 2012.

Carlos, UH's rightfielder, is second on the team with a .325 average (41-for-126) with a team-high 11 doubles. She has scored 24 runs with three triples, six home runs and 26 RBI. Junior second baseman Jazmine Zamora is hitting .321 with a team- and career-high 11 game hitting streak. Sophomore first baseman Leisha Li'ili'i is fourth on the team with a .313 average (36-for-115) with a team-high 25 RBI to go with eight doubles and 10 home runs.

In conference games however, Sharla Kliebenstein--who has started as the designated player the last seven-of-eight conference games at designated player--leads UH with a .429 batting average (9-for-21( with a double, four homers, and 14 RBI.
