HONOLULU –
Conner George continued his clutch hitting with three hits and three RBI, and the University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team won its third straight game with a 7-3 win over Wichita State on Thursday night at Les Murakami Stadium.
The Rainbows (4-15) had a season-high 14 hits in the winning effort.
Kaeo Aliviado batted 3-3 with two runs and
Marc Flores continued his hot hitting with three hits, one run, and two RBI. The three hits for George were a career-high.
Corey MacDonald (2-2) collected his second win of the season in six and two-thirds innings of work. He allowed three runs on 11 hits and struck out a career-high seven hitters.
Zach Beringer (1-1) was tagged with the loss for Wichita State (11-10) in just four innings. He allowed six runs on eight hits before being lifted with no outs in the fifth inning. Tyler Baker led the Shockers with two hits, one run, and two RBI.
George had three RBI for the second straight game and helped put UH within one victory of their first series win. With the bases loaded in the third inning, he delivered a two RBI-single to score Pi'ikea Kitamura (1 H, 1 R) and
Stephen Ventimilia (1 R) and extend the Rainbow lead to 3-0.
WSU got back in the game with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Casey Gillaspie (1 H, 1 R) doubled to open the inning then scored on a Baker single. The Shockers tacked on another run but it was
Austin Wobrock's unassisted double play at shortstop that helped UH preserve the lead.
UH regained the momentum in the fifth inning when back-to-back doubles by Aliviado and Flores put the 'Bows up 4-2. After an
Andre Real walk, George cashed in again when he drove home Flores from second with for his third RBI of the game.
The 'Bows will look to win their third straight over the Shockers when the two teams play game three of the series on Friday at 6:35 p.m.
