Match Notes
Fresh off two thrilling five-set victories over USC, the 10th-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team hits the road for a pair of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matches against conference rookie California Baptist Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16 in Riverside, Calif. Match times are 7:00 p.m. PT (4:00 p.m. HT) both nights.
The Warriors (7-12, 6-10 MPSF) snapped a four-match losing streak with a thrilling, come-from-behind victory in the opener of the USC series last Friday. USC had three match points in the fourth set before UH's
Brook Sedore served out the set with his lethal serves and erased an 0-2 deficit. In the rematch,
JP Marks posted career-highs of 22 kills and .444 hitting in leading the Warriors to a season-best .391 percentage.
With the two victories last week, Hawai'i moved up to No. 10 in this week's AVCA Top 15 Coaches Poll, its first top 10 ranking since the 2011 season.
Cal Baptist (8-11, 5-9) is competing in its first season in the MPSF and is currently in 10th place in the league standings, one spot behind UH. The Lancers are led by the one-two punch of Levi Cabral (4.29) and Guilherme Koepp (4.00), who rank second and fifth in the league in kills, respectively. As a team, CBU is hitting .298 on the year and lead the league in both team kills and assists. CBU is 5-2 at the Van Dyne Gym this season with victories over then-No. 1 UC Irvine and UCLA.
After beginning the season with 17 consecutive matches versus teams ranked in the top 10, the Warriors will face a team outside the top 10 for the second consecutive week. UH's final four opponents are either unranked or outside the top 10.
