HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team did it again, pulling out a five-match thriller against No. 13 USC Sunday at the Stan Sheriff Center. Set scores for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contest were 20-25, 25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 15-9.

The Warriors also won in five on Friday against the Trojans, erasing three match points in the fourth set. This time Hawai'i allowed USC to win Set 4 and send it to a fifth set, where the Warriors dominated once again, winning 15-9 much like Friday's final set score.

UH hit for a season-high .391 percentage while three Warriors posted double-figure kills led by JP Marks' career-best 22 kills on .444 hitting. Freshman Sinisa Zarkovic, who didn't commit his first hitting error until his 18th swing early in the fifth set, added 12 kills on .400 hitting. Sophomore Brook Sedore chipped in with 11 kills, eight digs, and four blocks.

Two nights after allowing Hawai'i record an MPSF match-high 12 aces, USC turned the tables with nine aces on Sunday. Joey Booth had a team-high 19 kills while Alex Slaught added 13. As a team, the Trojans hit .176. Setter Micah Christenson had a team-high three aces.

In Set 1, the teams traded points until the Trojans scored four of five points for a 20-16 advantage. That was all the cushion they needed in winning 25-20.

The Warriors jumped out to the early lead in Set 2, leading 16-13 after stringing together four straight points, which included a pair of Trojan hitting errors. Hawai'i traded side-outs the rest of the way and Marks ended a great rally on the final point of the set, giving UH a 25-21 victory.

UH scored five straight – including two aces by Joby Ramos – to take a 13-9 lead early in Set 3. The Warriors extended their lead to 23-16 after recording three straight stuff blocks, including solos by Marks and Holt. UH finished with six blocks in the set in winning 25-18.

The teams traded side-outs for the better part of Set 4, until the Warriors scored on back-to-back points with a kill by Davis Holt and a USC hitting error for an 18-16 lead. USC tied it at 18 and took a 22-20 lead after back-to-back aces by Rivera. The Trojans sided-out until Marks served in the net forcing a fifth set.

UH scored four straight for a 6-4 lead in Set 5. Moments later the Trojans hit into a Hawai'i block and hit long giving the Warriors an 8-5 lead. The teams traded side-outs until 10-8, when UH scored four straight, including consecutive hitting errors by Rivera. On match point, Zarkovic ended it with his 12th kill.

The Warriors will next travel to Cal Baptist for a two-match MPSF series, Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16.
