IRVINE, Calif. – The 11th-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team concluded its weeklong road trip with a straight set loss to top-ranked UC Irvine, Tuesday in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at the Bren Center. Set scores were 25-20, 25-22, 25-11.

The Warriors (5-10, 4-8 MPSF) finished 1-3 on their road trip, which included a two-match split of then-No. 6 UCLA last weekend. UH now begins a five-week stretch with four MPSF home series.

Sophomore Brook Sedore and freshman Sinisa Zarkovic each had 10 kills to pace the Warriors, who hit .172 as a team. Sophomore Taylor Averill added six kills and one of the team's two aces.

Kevin Tillie led the Anteaters (14-3, 11-3) with 10 kills and two aces. As a team, UCI hit .408 and out-blocked the Warriors 13.5 to 7.

In the first set, the Anteaters were the first to reach 20 after consecutive kills by Zack La Cavera gave UCI a 21-16 advantage. Moments later, a service error by Sedore gave UCI the 25-20 victory.

The Warriors looked to even things up in Set 2, jumping out to a 17-11 lead after stringing together four straight points. However, the Anteater block came up huge with four blocks during a six-point run to take a 19-18 lead. UCI closed out the set with back-to-back kills by Tillie, capping a 14-5 run.

It was all UCI in Set 3. The Anteaters led 15-9 at the halfway point before running off 10 of 12 to end the match.

The Warriors return to Honolulu to host Cal State Northridge for a two-match series March 1 & 3 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
