Set scores were 25-23, 22-25, 33-31, 20-25, 15-9.
The Warriors (3-7, 2-5 MPSF) played their sixth five-set match this season and fell to 2-4 in those matches.

The Cardinal (7-2, 4-2) was led by Steven Irvin, who had a match-high 27 kills on .548 hitting. Brian Cook added 20 kills.
In Set 1, the Warriors grabbed the early advantage at 12-8 with a four-point run, spurred by a pair of Cardinal hitting errors. Stanford battled back to take a 17-15 lead with six unanswered points and the Warriors never recovered. UH got as close as one at 23-22 and 24-23 before Steven Irvin ended it for the Cardinal. Cook led Stanford with seven kills in the frame.
Hawai'i again got off to a fast start in Set 2. The Warriors took a 14-9 lead with four straight points, three by Holt, who had a kill and two blocks. Stanford closed to within two at 22-21 with a four-point spurt but Hawai'i closed it out with back-to-back kills by Zarkovic.
The Cardinal turned the tables on the Warriors in Set 3, taking an early 10-6 lead. Stanford built a 19-14 advantage before UH rallied for a 22-21 lead. UH had set point at 24-23 but Averill was stuffed. The Warriors had five more chances at the set while the Cardinal had three as the teams went back-and-forth. Down 31-30, the Cardinal scored three straight to end it, the last when Sedore failed to clear the net.
The Warriors rebounded by jumping all over the Cardinal in Set 4. Sedore had three aces and Zarkovic had one during an 8-1 run as UH built a 13-5 lead. Hawai'I led by as many as nine at 20-11 before the Cardinal closed to within five at 21-16. But that would be as close as they would get as UH closed out the set with Sedore's 14
th kill for a 25-20 victory.
Back-to-back hitting errors by Sedore and another by Zarkovic gave Stanford a 5-2 lead to start Set 5. The lead increased to 9-4 and that would hold up as the Warriors never got within three the rest of the way.
The teams play again Saturday. First serve is 7:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
