Cross Country Takes Ninth At Big West Meet

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's cross country team placed ninth at the Big West Conference Championships Saturday at Fairbanks Memorial Cross Country Course.
 
Leading the Rainbow Wahine was senior Kevyn Murphy, who finished 57th overall, completing the 6k course in 25:19.3. Right behind her was freshman Caitlyn Foss, who clocked in at 25:37.6 for 61st place.
 
Cal Poly defended its title edging UC Davis by seven points. Four Mustangs finished in the Top 10 led by individual champion Laura Hollander (20:43.9), who dominated the race, winning by more than a minute over UC Davis' Katie Fry (21:49.5).
 
UC Santa Barbara finished third (62), followed by Long Beach State (125), Cal State Fullerton (147), UC Riverside (158), UC Irvine (180), Cal State Northridge (244), and UH (278).
 
Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine were sophomore Kelsie Kobayashi (26:23.5/64th), junior Louise Mulvey (26:50.4/68th), junior Amanda Lee (27:08.5/69th), sophomore Sara Silverman (28:31.4/71st), and junior Melody Papalii (29:18.7/72nd).
 
The meet concludes the cross country season for the Rainbow Wahine.
