Women’s Golf Seeking Rainbow Wahine Invite Win

WAHIAWA, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team is seeking its first tournament win in nearly 20 years after firing a season-best 295, Wednesday, during the second round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational at the Leilehua Golf Course.
 
Hawai'i (304-295=599) leads the tournament by two strokes over New Mexico State, who shot 296 and has a 601 total. Sacramento State (602) is third followed by Colorado State (603), BYU (614), Northern Arizona (614), Grand Canyon (622), and Utah Valley (623).
 
Individually, Northern Arizona's Kaitlen Parsons holds a one stroke lead over BYU's Selu Fotu. Parson shot even par 72 on Wednesday and is 1-over 145 for the tournament. Fotu shot 1-under 71 followed by UH freshman Raquel Ek, who shot 1-over 73 and is 3-over 147 for the tourney.
 
A total of five Rainbow Wahine are currently in the Top 10. Freshman Izzy Leung also shot 73 and sits in a three-way tie for fourth place at 5-over 149. Sophomore Nichole Cruz, freshman Brianna Becker, and senior Charlee Kapiioho are tied for seventh at 6-over 150, five strokes off the lead. Becker and Kapiiho are playing as individuals in addition to freshman Daezsa Tomas who matched her first round 76 with another one for a 152 total and tie for 18th.
 
Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine are freshman Kelli-Anne Katsuda (78-75), who is tied for 21st and senior Liana Otaka (80-76), who is in 31st place.
 
The last time Hawai'i captured a tournament title was the 1996 Lady Bronc Classic and the last Rainbow Wahine to win an individual championship was Dale Gammie at the Heather Farr Memorial in 2006.
